Employment Status

The Work Engagement ToolTM is designed to measure the following aspects of an individual's relationship with his/her work:

  • The importance to the individual of different aspects of work, grouped in seven broad themes (or "motivational blades")
  • The extent to which the individual is satisfied in respect of these seven "motivational blades" in their current work
  • The extent to which the individual is engaged as a whole person in their current work

Although the importance aspects are of relevance to any individual, the satisfaction and engagement aspects relate to current work.  The Work Engagement ToolTM is therefore only suitable for individuals who are currently working, whether as an employee, self-employed, or in a voluntary capacity.

If you are currently working as an employee or as a volunteer: completion of the Work Engagement ToolTM is straightforward.  Items concerning the organisation you work for and the person to whom you are accountable simply refer to your employer or voluntary organisation and your manager or supervisor.

If you are currently self-employed: during completion of the Work Engagement ToolTM, you need to bear in mind that items concerning the organisation(s) you work for and the person(s) to whom you are accountable refer to your clients.  As an employer pays an employee for the work they do, so it is that your clients pay you for the work you do.  Similarly, as an employee is accountable to their manager or supervisor for their work, so it is that you are accountable to your clients (or individuals therein) for your work.

If you are not currently working: Please proceed no further, as it will be not productive for you to complete the Work Engagement ToolTM at this time.  Please feel free to contact BecauseTM again to complete the Work Engagement ToolTM once you are in employment again.

If you are currently working in several of the above capacities: please complete the Work Engagement ToolTM in respect of the work that is most relevant for the purpose.  If an employer has arranged for you to complete the the Work Engagement ToolTM, please respond in respect of your work with that employer.  If you have made your own arrangements to complete the Work Engagement ToolTM, please respond in respect of the work that is most important to you, perhaps because it occupies most of your work time or is responsible for most of your income.
